I kind of forgot about this blog and the Lykke Li song made me wish I never remembered. I'm broke and jobless and living in new city so I definitely need to update.

The Good Life

My horoscope for september said this will be the best month of the year for me. This would be great except for the fact that there are 3 more months after it for everything to go downhill but I'm generally an optimist so I will ignore that fact.

I have a job. I have a boy. I have great friends. I have a cold six pack of PBR in the fridge. There are only two more weeks of school. I am going to be 22. I am going to New Orleans with Willi.

October seems to hold some promise as well. I am going to be in Baltimore, Philly and New York City all in a one weekend period for Halloween and will be seeing Justice on Halloween in NYC.

I don't know how it happened, but I'm glad it did. This summer was one hell of a shit show but somehow the pieces are falling together.

Too Many People are Leaving - Part One

Over the next few weeks, a lot of people I know are leaving this city.  I can't say I blame them. But it would be nice if everyone could just wait until I graduate to move out. 

 

First one to go is Sean.  We had a pretty good night at Petra's and (god help us) Scorpio's. Nothing says goodbye like a shirtless DJ playing house music and homo thugs. 

Unfortunately, no pictures have surfaced from Scorpio's.

The Week in Pictures

Nothing much has happened this weekend to specifically blog about. Classes started.  I've been going out way too much.  Made a splurge purchase with a lot of buyer's remorse afterwards.  

Here are some pictures.

These two pictures are of my school.  It is kind of insane to walk into this building for class.  It used to be an old factory and it has this pretty little courtyard inside of it.

Milan is the most graffitied city i have ever seen.  And it isn't just tags but really elaborate pictures.  From my window, someone painted a blue penguin holding an ice cream cone and taking to a zebra (I will get a picture of this, I promise)

This was a protest that we happened upon.  These high school students are protesting a change in the system of the public schools.  The new system would make each grade have only one teacher for all subjects.  Hundreds of teachers would lose their job.

Then we finished up with a picnic in the park.  It was beautiful out -  one of the first sunny days we have had here.  On a bridge, we found this conglomeration of locks that people have linked together over time.  It looks like people were signing names on it (usually couples).

It was a good week.

First real post...finally

So I have been here in Milano for about a week now and it feels like much longer. Everyday has been packed with things to do and in my free time, I have been trying to see as much as possible (read: shopping) because I keep forgetting that I am going to be here for three months.

So here will be my probably inaccurate renderings of the past week

Monday/Tuesday - Simply put, the longest day of my life. Our flight left Philadelphia at 4pm and we got to Milan at 6am their time. I basically skipped night and then had to go through an entire day of activities.

We had some Italians pick us up from the air port, Elenora and Sanda, and took us to our apartments. We are right in the middle of the Navigli district which is the artsy district with all of the canals. Our apartment has a courtyard and it looks quintessentially Italian.

After getting settled, we went to a restaurant that would soon become our regular place - Luna Rossa. For 7 euro, you get a main course, a soda, wine or beer, and a coffee. Their main courses are large enough for 2 or 3 people to split too. I haven't had a bad food experience yet. Everything is amazing here - even McDonalds with their curly fries (Patate Vertigo).

After lunch we walked around a bit. Here are some pictures from that walk.

After walking around just for the sake of staying awake, we had to go to a nice dinner. It was probably the best dinner I have had in a long time. It started with antipasta outside in a courtyard walled by bushes with champagne, bread pastries and cigarettes. After about an hour after that, we moved inside and had wine and risotto with a little pasta and mushroom dish as a second course. Then about an hour later, they brought steak and vinegarette. The dinner took about 4 hours and all. Even lunches here take a minim um of 90 minutes. Italians really love their food and eating together.
After dinner, I passed out.

The rest of the week was nice. We spent a lot of time walking around and got to see some good landmarks and learn the city. I am able to semi-navigate the metro now and can walk to and from classes without constantly checking to make sure I am going the right way.

I'm alive...I promise

I have been relentlessly busy since I arrived here.  A post is coming soon - within the next 24 hours hopefully.

I have decided to start a blog to keep track of everything I do while I am in Milan.  Mainly for friends and relatives who want to know but also for myself. 

I leave at the end of September and will start posting once I get to Italy.
